Seems some want to hear of a failure. Now that surprises me.

As they are walking through the streets chanting "NO JUSTICE NEW TV'S"   Sadly most seem to be opportunists.

I am glad they are getting some great bands out there. I'm not a gambler but Saturday will be my 2nd show there. Sad they don't pay their employees better I know someone who has worked there nearly 2 years and just minimum wage.

I agree with the cafe Mark. My last time there was a few years ago during Friday after Five and the way he treated people who weren't buying from his business. So instead of purchasing several drinks we just waited until after the program. I'm sure there are alot of reasons for the demise of any business including all discussed above.

I think people are trying to read the tea leaves waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much on this Carmichael's closing.  You've all touched on the issues, but what it comes down to is this:

1) His prices jacked way up, to the point that it wasn't worth ordering there.  The food was pretty good, I'll give it that, but a bill for a family of four could approach or exceed 50 bucks.  That's a bit much for a night of pub food.  My gut says that as profits decreased, Bill countered this by raising prices -- and kept doing that.  Economics 101 tells you that once you start on this trend, your business will be going under eventually.

2) Much more competition than there was 10, 15, 20 years ago.  Pyzano's, Uncle Jack's, Niner's, Patrick's, El Jinete, etc., not to mention all the Chinese restaurants that have popped up.

3) Ownership wasn't always the most pleasant to deal with, for either the customers or the staff.  I have a relative who swore off ordering from that place because of the way he was treated.

4) The place felt like a dungeon inside.

I think all that adds up to a recipe for disaster -- especially the increase in competition.  People just have more quality options now, and if those options meant you didn't have to pay Carmichael's prices or deal with Bill any longer -- well, you see what happened.

I quit eating there 13 years ago due to a manager's treatment of me as I was a regular for lunch there and was told I would need to order before 10 am for lunch. Sorry never went back.

Carmichaels on Mechanic St is no more. Minimum wage hike perhaps caused this.

Build an airport in MD and follow MD law seems very straight forward. We will keep the one in Mineral County and have our open meetings laws intact and probably have Autocross again.

I doubt a petition is going to stop a company from closing this location. Sad really but it must not be profitable to run it.

I haven't been down this year at all not because I am boycotting but that I have no interest in anything in the downtown area. The alternatives at Canal place are better and I did attend the wingoff there. Many of the local bands are playing outside of the city with Lady Invidia playing Ocean City and Rocky Gap casino this past weekend. I am attending a concert in Greencastle this weekend there are choices out there.

The airport doesn't have commercial service any longer. Close the airport and turn it into a race track. Just sayin Cumberland is dead as a destination for Tourism or Business.

I had terrible service at Uncle Jacks I was brought the wrong food (thin crust when I ordered deep dish) And was asked if I could just eat that. Couldn't get refills of drinks this was last summer and the last time I was there.

Fat Boy's pizza shack in Frostburg is always exceptional service. When the owner has time he will come out and ask how it was and any special requests they are very helpful.

I would rather see the fair grounds sit empty than be used for this and other events. Seriously Del Fest isn't my thing but what a great thing to have in our area. Now bring on some rock festivals, car shows, swap meets and anything else and I'm there.

Why does this forum have a "rumors" thread? Other than the actual links to real news articles, it is pretty much nothing but rumors anyway.

I guess because I started one.
