You got it right.  Punks talking gang stuff.  These south side soldiers are really just punks in need of an ass beating.  If we stop being all "Oooh, its a gang!" and beat their ass like their mamma shoulda done we wouldn't be talking about "gang" problems in Cumberland. I know so many of these kids. I still see them as little kids. I can't believe it surprises me that some of them are doing prison time.

That's right, no fight.  A lot of people arguing with each other.  South Side Soldeirs are losing "members".  Somebody is trying to start a new gang called the "1st Street Gang" and taking the SSS members.  The gangs got together (I keep picturing West Side Story) and yelled at each other.  Police broke them up.

I am a home owner in this area & have watched most of these individuals grow up.( or should I say ,get older)(Altho some are not from around here).      TO BLAME...    WELFARE (?sp) , no higher than a sixth grade  schooling,(altho they have no problem using their cell phones)  nothing to do (or want to) except "hang out" with du-rags or caps turned backwards, pants down  exposing their under wear, young girls with infants & strollers,  peddling drugs, & constructing makeshift weapons.
  When the Police come,they scatter like flies even tho they have repeatedly always been involved.

In your area and the area where beanie was killed is probably the worst two areas of that little section. I would say probably worse than the area near the village.

Some people think it is a joke that Cumberland may have a gang(s), or wannabees, etc. Take it as a joke and it will bite you in the ass.  Hagerstown hasn't taken it as a joke and there is gangland violence happening there on a weekly basis, including a recent BGF assasination.  The good point to make is that the goons are usually killing, stabbing and shooting each other in Hagerstown, but regular people are victims of the burglaries, strong armed robberies and armed robberies. I agree with the posters on here that these people need to be humilated and beat down but then a good citizen gets charged with the same as the goon.

The police need to be proactive and target these individuals for everything from jaywalking, to throwing a cigarette on the ground (littering), etc.  Anyone of these individuals associated with these groups that are on probation need to be targeted for violations, no matter how petty.  The problem will only get worse.  Hagerstown is proactive and the police can't keep up because of the growing housing projects.

I worked the overnight shift on Monday night and went to Sheetz on the avenue and seen this guy come in baggy pants, tattoos included a tear drop from his eye. He was trying to order a MTO item and the beeper from the previous order was beeping.

He was shouting " Stop the Fu***ing beeping I getting pissed off" so I said to the person making my hot dogs hurry up I want to get out of here.

Just for the record, bingocaller and I know each other, and I was just razzing him. Working at Dairy Mart, I had to deal with these types daily. He was probably smart to just move on his way and not stick around.

Our block is half empty because of drug busts. The police have been on top of it and cleared out a whole passel of 'em. When we first moved here it was like living on "COPS." Now, it's so quiet that you can hear the crazy guy at the head of the block yelling once in while,  .

Seriously, I think we're pretty lucky. It seems a lot of people come into Cumberland expecting to find Andy and Barney hanging around the barber shop with Floyd. Instead, they run into C3I, the Cumberland City Police, Allegany County Sheriff's patrol, and our State Police. I'm sure people can come up with stories where they erred, but all-in-all, the do a darn good job and I think we're fortunate to have. I watched the female officer do a traffic stop on our street one night, and as she got out of her cruiser to got and check his ID and such I thougt, "Lady, you've got a lot more guts than I have. No way I'd want to approach a car at night these days, even trained and armed. Not with the nuts out there (example, Florida "Zombie" case).
