That appears to be up to the county...But they don't seem to be able to do much good for the people but they can sure talk about religion and evil....

Funny how Valentine, McKay are testifying and speaking out against the cuts to the local county by the state

yet they ran on the Teabugger platform of we need spending cuts

YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS

Makes one wonder of the parents in LO are more concerned with the demographics of Washington Middle and Fort Hill more than travel time in a school bus.

Will the LO students ride a bus with other county students or will there be a separate bus to transport them? Personally, I think they should use a separate bus to transport the LO students to and from school. It will cut down on travel time since they wouldn't have to stop and go dropping off other students.

Gee Tim, I see now why you wanted to be on the BOE (with your GED and court record). Our children would have been so much better off if you were making the "big" decisions.

That's wrong.

Why not put the issue on the ballot and let the people decide?

This has what to do with you wanting the BOE to pay for your kid to attend school in another county? When you make non relevant comments, you undermine your cause. It just makes you look foolish. If you want your children to go to school in Handcock, then move there.

No, thats low!  Its really just a lame attempt at silencing someone with an opposing view.  I expected better of you.

As for the poll, I expected it to be much closer.  Looks like the Commissioners mis-judged another one.

I agree....if you live in Allegany County, you go to school in Allegany County.  The bus ride is just bogus!   When I went to school, I had a 1 1/2 hr ride each way so the whining about the length of the bus ride means absolutely nothing to me.  Get over it people!

As with any issue its super easy to speak out against something when it doesn't effect you.  "If you don't like it then move" Seriously?? Hey! You don't agree with your taxes/gas prices/laws?? Don't fight for your rights...just move to another country! Sounds like an excellent Presidential slogan.
My main issue it that these families were promised/guaranteed that when it comes to schooling THIS is how it works in this area. They didn't even ask for it! They were told! Why? Because apparently "back when" the rule was made people thought more with their brains than their wallets. Now these families lives and schedules are being jerked around and flipped upside down. These kids are being uprooted from everything they have ever known educationally and socially. And of course they will adjust but they shouldn't have to! Don't boo hoo that it's taking money out of "your" pocket either. They pay taxes too! Plus no one seems to mention all the money Allegany Co. was raking in from Garrett Co residents attending school here! The number was a lot higher than LO students! Sure it is being phased out but with all those currently grandfathered in, Allegany County will be benefiting with thousands and thousands of dollars for years to come!

Dont the students from Oldtown, Westernport, Rawlings, Barton, Lonaconing and Mt. Savage have the same issue?  They lost their schools and had their schedules and ways of life uprooted too.  Why do you deserve special treatment?

BooHoo, cry me a river.

Well it is surely needed. The current system of School system is out of date statewide. Places like Baltimore City, Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, and all the counties will have School Districts in each county instead of whole Counties. Baltimore city will likely have 6 School districts in 1 City County.

No one is saying it was fair for them! I feel for them as well! But this is not due to a school closing.

Ms Piggy it's the entire current system it has to be gutted and phased out and every county must go with what is used in some states instead of County systems of Public education we could have individual counties and it won't be always in one county but it can include part of one county. Some county school districts could be phased out sooner then others. I see 10 to 12 years of transition from entire counties to individual school districts. What this school district system will also do is reopen some schools statewide that closed. Those schools that were sold years ago when school districts are created then some new schools will get built. This situation is a wake up call. This situation is an example why full reform should be needed. Also in this school district system current county school boards would be disbanded and new elections to be held in new districts.
