WV Operaters license renewal
« on: January 10, 2012, 09:20:50 PM »
I hope that all of you who have to renew your drivers license in West Virginia know what awaits you. I found out today at the court house, that the days of presenting your old drivers license, along with one "proof of residence" piece of mail are gone. You now have to present a certified copy of your birth certificate, your social security card and, twopieces of "proof of residence mails". They will not accept your original birth certificate. SO, that means we have to go through the expense/aggrivation of getting a certified COPY of what we already have in our possession.
To me, this is about three steps beyond crazy.

I couldn't agree with you more Farmall.  This is a crock of sh*t and it will make it very difficult for some to gather this foolish information.  If you have been a resident of WV for years and years along with having had a drivers license for years and years, this should be adequate.  Just another over paid politician with nothing to do but dream up sh*t like this to make it hard on the honest people.  How damn stupid can you get!!!!

Now try and get a 16 year old a license that don't have any bills in their name no Identification no proof of a resident of the state. I have been there, I had to sign an affidavit stating he lived with me. Then I had to prove I was a resident of the state too. Now I have lived in WV all my life I have had a valid drivers license since I was 16, I am 48 years old now. Another thing about the D.M.V in WV I could never understand if you want to renew your tags you have to provide proof your taxes are paid understandable but if you are a resident of Mineral county and you need that proof you will need to go to Keyser to get it. In this day and age with computers I can't figure why they don't have access to that information. And no John they will not accept a US Passport that you can't acquire with out an original birth certificate.

Time to call your congressman or DMV in Charleston.  It's total bull crap in my book.  Seems to me if you have been a resident for many years and presently have a valid drivers license, this is proof enough to me that all is  legitimate.  What really gets me is when they send you the renewal document to take to DMV, then you have to take a file cabinet with you to assure yourself that you haven't forgotten any documents that they may request and then have to make another trip if you did.  It's pretty apparent that they have too many employees at the DMV that have nothing better to do than aggravate the true residents of the state.  I have always said that if the crooks want to infiltrate the system, they will find a way, this is only making it hard on the law abiding people.

To renew your drivers license in MD. you only need the license that's about to expire. You don't have to prove anything, only the eye test. If you need to get a copy, here in MD. the only thing you need is your social security card.

In PA, if you are getting your license for the first time you need to have an appointment. And they only give driving tests on Wednesday and Friday from 8am - 3pm.  You can pick where you want the test .  If the teenager fails the drivers test they must wait 2 weeks before they can take it again.  As far as giving a Passport as ID it was accepted for my daughter but my son did not have one.  We had to have his Certified Birth Certificate. (raised seal) which we went to the Health Dept in Allegany Co, MD and got. When my husband and I got our PA licenses it was a headache because our house was not built yet and we did not have all of our utilities yet. But thanks to the Senator of our area we finally got them.

Thank you for bringing this up!

This has been one of my biggest complaints in last few weeks - I just don't know why they can't use technology in WV.

I just went through the license renewal process and I felt it to be stupid as well.

I gave all that documentation to Romney DMV years ago when I got my license - it seems so stupid to require it for a renewal - a new application I could understand.

I am also a resident of Mineral County and the idea that I have to provide proof that I paid my taxes is also a lack of use of technology - they've got the electronic files and SHOULD KNOW whether things are paid and up to date.

I guess it irks me even more because I'm an IT professional that knows databases and systems and it seems that WV is not using what it has in its own hands to support the state residents for services.

Shame on them for not being able to deal with these things in the year 2012~

I will stand corrected one one point. They WILL accept an original birth certificate IF it has the raised seal. They will not accept a hospital certificate....the one with the footprints on it. Also, those females who are married will have to bring along their marriage certificates/license to validate a name change......same goes for divorced females. Males are off the hook since they don't have to change their names. IF the female doesn't have these items in her possession, the male has to sign an affidavit to validate her info. Nice. Your full name also has to appear....no more middle initials. That is allegedly for our "national ID" so the feds can track us. That part has been codified into law.

Was also told by DMV that WV is the guinea pig for this little government project. It's time to start writing letters and letting your voice be heard. Otherwise, when you have to get a renewal in 5 years (if you're doing it now), your trip to Romney may be by cattle car.

Wonder if obama could get an operators licence in WV  now?

Welkomme to WV? Montani Semper Liberi? Apparently not anymore.

Actually Florida, Indiana, Texas and other states already make these requirements, especially the border states.
West Virginia is just catching up. so whoever told you that the state is a guinea pig was probably just talking off the top of their head. Whilst it is a pain, it really doesn't bother me as I want to protect my ID. I am a legal resident and have no fears.

I hear what you're saying, Maeve and I've been a West Virginian since birth so, no fears here. As far as what I posted about the "guinea pig"....that came straight from Charleston today.

I'm not buying the identity protection though. I've given more of my information to the state today than I've ever handed out. I'm less protected now than I was 24 hours ago.

Montani Semper Liberi.......don't lose that thought!

If you want to put the blame on these requirements, you need to point the finger at our Federal Government. It has to do with open borders , we are now at a point of not knowing who is living in America.

You're correct, Beef and, the boy king has done nothing to make it better. SO, it's the legal, law-abiding citizens who are under the microscope now.

I renewed my license today and opted out of the federal tracking ID part of it, just got a regular license. However, in 2017, you (we) will have no choice but to be registered with a national ID. It won't be long until we have to "show our papers" to get across state lines.

Seems to me that the wrong folks are under the scope.

Montani Semper Liberi.......I hope we stick to that.

We have no right to complain about illegal immigration if we do not want to take the steps to stop it guys. Law enforcement needs all the tools they can get. I simply don't care if they ask for all of that because I am a legal resident.
